WELCOME
The mission statement and vision of the Elmwood Local Schools Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career and personal/social development of all students. School counselors are professional school advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement. In partnership with other educators, parents or guardians, and the community, school counselors facilitate the support system to ensure that all students in Elmwood Local Schools have access to, and are prepared, with the knowledge and skills to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society.
The philosophy of the Elmwood Local Schools Counseling Program is that all students at Elmwood have worth and are deserving of an equal excellent education. All students have access to a comprehensive school counseling program for preventative and responsive services. All students regardless of any differences they may have, are treated with respect and unconditional positive regard. Student differences are taken into account during the planning and implementation of the Elmwood School Counseling Program. The counseling program is based on student needs according to school data, community data, goals of students, and results from school counselor formal and informal surveys.

- The Elmwood Community does an amazing job of supporting its school, the school staff, and the great students that walk our halls. As the Elmwood Middle School Counselor I want to express my appreciation for being in the great position to work with the Elmwood Community. Thank you!
- This year let us all think about the phrase 'leave everything better than you found it.' This is most commonly attributed to Robert Baden-Powell. If we all take this philosophy in life then our future will be bright for our children.
PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELORS CAN HELP
School counselors provide a great service to all students and are always readily available for students, staff, and community. Below is a list of responsibilities I have as a School Counselor. This is by no means a complete list of responsibilities that School Counselors take on a daily basis.
"Middle school students are characterized by rapid physical growth, curiosity about their world and an emerging self-identity. Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, school counselors work as a team member with school staff, parents and the community to create a caring, supportive climate and atmosphere whereby young adolescents can achieve academic success. Middle school counselors enhance the learning process and promote academic achievement. School counseling programs are essential for students to achieve optimal personal growth, acquire positive social skills and values, set appropriate career goals and realize full academic potential to become productive, contributing members of the world community. The professional middle school counselor holds a master’s degree and required state certification in school counseling. Maintaining certification includes on-going professional development to stay current with education reform and challenges facing today’s students. Professional association membership is encouraged as it enhances the school counselor’s knowledge and effectiveness."
